What's wrong with people in these Christ based religions?

I believe that religions started out to help people to explain what made their world work. They were not privy to the workings of a scientific society that we live in today. I was watching a program about the Greeks who had found dinosaur fossils and recreated the bones to match human physiology and claimed them to be the bones of giant heroes. This was after the birth of Christ [I think] and people were still looking for answers. Religion made up all sorts of rules and standards along the way and the religious folk are bound by these rules based upon "faith." Remember, religion doesn't kill people, people kill people. Following the rules of religion and the beliefs that were born along with the ever changing needs of the religion is much easier than trying to understand ourselves. Being given an answer is much easier than the dedication it takes to discover what makes us tick for ourselves.
