Can you cut royal icing into strips?

This might be hard as royal icing is creamy, but you can use fondant. Fondant is a playdough -ey type frosting and is sold in various colors - or you can buy white and add food coloring to make the color of your choice. If you like the effect of royal icing you can use both fondant and royal icing to decorate the cake.
